Summer's Over: 10 Reasons To Be Excited For Fall

By Jessi Stickel on August 24, 2016

Summer is coming to a sad end and Labor Day is just around the corner, which means all of us college students will be packing up and heading back to school. No more relaxing by the pool, going on road trips or binge watching Grey’s Anatomy all day.

Just about every college student is disappointed when they realize summer is officially over, but it is not all bad; summer ending means fall is coming.

Here are 10 reasons to not be sad that summer is over and to get excited for fall.

1. Cooler weather

Even if you love summer, the blistering heat gets pretty old by the time September comes around. During fall you don’t have to worry about sweating your butt off just walking from your car to the grocery store. It is the perfect in-between weather — not too hot to be outside and not too cold to be completely bundled up. After this hot summer, I think we all could use a little break from the heat and sun.

2. Bonfires

Bonfires are so much fun on those cool fall nights. They are a great way to get together with your closest friends, enjoy the weather and more importantly, each other’s company. You have a blast talking, roasting marshmallows, making s’mores, playing games, and even gazing at the stars while keeping warm by the fire.

3. Halloween

Halloween is one of the most thrilling holidays of them all. You get to dress up however you want, go to parties and haunted houses, or even trick-or-treating with your younger family members. You also get to do basically month-long activities, like carve pumpkins, decorate your home or apartment and stuff your face with ‘fun-sized’ candy and the traditional candy corn.

4. Halloween movies

Halloween movies are a fall favorite for many. Whether you like the really scary horror movies, the intense thrillers or the fun Disney Halloween movies, it is exciting to have different movies you only watch once a year. It makes it fun to sit down with family and friends and watch a movie together, so Freddy Vs. Jason, Scream, Halloweentown and Hocus Pocus, here we come!

5. Pumpkin flavored everything

Over the past few years, there has been literally pumpkin flavored everything during the fall, from Oreos and chewing gum to the classic pumpkin latte. Flavors like pumpkin that only come around one time a year can be super exciting (especially for those who love pumpkin). If you like the odd pumpkin flavored foods or if you just keep it simple with a PSL (pumpkin spice latte), it’s another thing to get excited about as fall approaches.

6. Beautiful scenery

There is nothing like the colors of the trees and fallen leaves during the fall season. It is like the world around you is vibrant, changing from green to shades of orange, yellow and red. During this time of year, taking walks in the crisp air is so relaxing and refreshing. Fall scenery makes walking to class a little more bearable.

7. Hoodies and jackets

Fall has that perfect weather where you can just wear a long-sleeve shirt during the day and need a light jacket at night. After wearing tank tops and t-shirts 24/7, being able to wrap up in a hoodie or jacket is oh so cozy.

8. New semester

Although going back to school in the fall is not the most exciting thing in the world, it does have its perks. You get to start a new semester with a whole new schedule and set of professors, which also means that you are one step closer to graduating college. You also get to go back and see your friends after a summer away. For the ‘nerds’ out there, it is exciting to get all new notebooks and supplies too.

9. T.V. series return

During the summer is when many television series take a break from seasons, but they come back with brand new seasons in the fall, normally mid-September. This means shows like The Voice, How To Get Away With Murder, and Modern Family will all have new episodes to watch.

10. Football

When summer ends, football season begins. Not only do college students have the NFL games to be excited about, but their college football team season starts as well. Going to your favorite NFL team or a home game at your university can be a lot of fun, especially when you bring your friends and team spirit along. Watching your favorite team play on television can be just as fun as well; you can even throw Sunday or Monday night football parties and invite your friends and family to join.
